Hameln

WHY?
When a school asked me to put together an itinerary for Hameln, I was unsure whether there would be enough to keep pupils captivated in an area not known for school trips. With the famous Pied Piper however, boat trips, glassblowing workshops, falconry displays, historic monuments, toboggan runs and even a theme park in the form of Heidelpark, I was soon struggling to fit it all in! This quieter but equally exciting region will appeal to teachers wanting to introduce their pupils to somewhere different away from the crowds, with plenty of exposure to the target language and German culture whilst having fun at the same time.

WHO?
Pupils from 11 – 18 years old

HOW?
The airport of Hanover is now served by several charter airlines although schools wishing to follow a five day itinerary usually travel by coach, which is within the driving hours for one day. We use the Rattenfanger Hotel in Hameln as youth hostels in this area predominantly do not have en suite facilities and the food here is enthusiastically German, adding to the positive experience!
